Rosa Scott Obituary

In Loving Memory of Rosa Scott

Rosa Scott passed away on February 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy as radiant and enduring as the life she led. Known to many as a natural leader and to her family as their “Queen,” she moved through the world with a rare poise that commanded respect and a warmth that invited love.

She was originally born in St. Petersburg, FL to Sam and Irene Alexander. She moved to Dayton at a young age, and worked as a dining room supervisor at Wright Patterson Air Force Base while also working as an assembly worker at McCall's. She became a longtime member of Phillips Temple CME Church, joining before she left for Germany in 1988.

A Life of Devotion

Her life was a masterclass in devotion. Whether to her faith, her community, or her lifelong passions, Rosa committed herself fully. She did not simply inhabit her roles; she led them
with a quiet, fierce integrity. She was the steady compass by which her loved ones navigated life, offering guidance that was as firm as it was compassionate.

An Accomplished Life

She received a Proclamation from then-City of Dayton Mayor Clay Dixon for her dedication to community service, and being an integral part of starting the latchkey program, which provides supervised before- and after-school care for children after being elected to the West Side Priority Board, defeating a prior member who held that seat for 20 years. While in Germany, she worked as an Officer's Club Manager receiving various awards from the United States Army Generals for implementing several youth training programs. She retired from the workforce in 1991, after returning to the United States to become a full time homemaker, running her home as if it were a Fortune 500 Company.

The Heart of a Mother

Her home was her throne, and from it she nurtured generations. Through her cooking and catering, she created meals that were more than food—they were expressions of love, artistry, and comfort.

A Lasting Beauty

Rosa possessed a beauty that transcended the physical. It lived in the grace of her gestures, the clarity of her spirit, and the way she made every person in her presence feel seen and valued. Even in her final days, her inner light remained undimmed, a testament to a life lived with purpose and elegance.

The Farewell

She is survived by her husband, Grant Scott; daughters Irene Alexander and Sharron Harris; twin son Ronald Garrett; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will forever carry her lessons of leadership and love.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Alexander; her father, Sam Alexander; her brothers, Abraham Alexander and Charles Alexander Sr.; her sister, Mary Howard; and her son, Donald Garrett Sr., with whom she is now reunited in peace.
