The world became a little dimmer on October 24, 2025, when Shereece “Reecie” Holmon, age 54, of Dayton, Ohio, spread her wings and journeyed home. Though her roots were in Dayton, Reecie’s heart belonged to New York, a place where her creativity, laughter, and boundless spirit truly came alive.
Reecie was a radiant soul, a writer, singer, poet, and lifelong adventurer whose imagination painted color into the lives of everyone she met. She had a way of seeing beauty where others saw the ordinary, and she shared that beauty generously through her art, her words, and her compassion.
A proud graduate of Chaminade Julienne High School, Class of 1989, Reecie continued to flourish at Miami University, where she earned her degree and became a devoted and forever proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Sisterhood, education, and service were woven deeply into her purpose, shaping how she moved through the world.
Her greatest joy came from working with children, nurturing their minds, encouraging their dreams, and reminding them that they, too, carried light within them. Her work wasn’t just a calling; it was her gift to the world. Through her kindness, patience, and philanthropy, she shaped countless young lives and planted seeds of hope that will continue to grow.
Reecie lived life as if it were a song, full of rhythm, movement, and meaning. Whether she was traveling to a new place, crafting something beautiful by hand, or penning a poem late into the night, she moved through the world with wonder and intention. Her laughter filled rooms, and her love filled hearts.
She leaves behind her beloved mother, Vicki Maddox, her cherished family, and her adoring friends, all of whom carry her spirit forward with deep love and gratitude. She is preceded in death by her father, Billy Holmon, her stepfather, LeDon Maddox, her maternal grandparents, George and Jean Jackson, and her paternal grandmother, Ruby Patterson.
Though her journey on this earth has ended, her story continues in every act of kindness, every child she inspired, and every creative spark she left behind.
Reecie taught us that life is an adventure best met with open arms, a brave heart, and a smile, and her light will forever guide us on that path.
