Susie Dixon Obituary

Susie Mae (Steverson) Dixon, aged 95, was born on June 21st, 1927, in Dayton, OH to the late Alfred S. and Cora L. Steverson. She was educated in the Dayton Public Schools system and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1945. Susie’s professional career was as a mailroom supervisor at Reynolds & Reynolds Company, with over 20 years of service.

As mailroom supervisor, she was responsible for the entirety of mailroom operations, as well as the training of generations of work-study students from Patterson Cooperative High School. After retirement she continued to stay busy, working part-time with several local companies, including the University of Dayton Arena, Welcome Stadium, and Walgreens.

Susie accepted Christ at an early age, joining Bethel Baptist Church (Dayton, OH) under the leadership of Rev. George W. Lucas. She joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (Dayton, OH) in 1964, under the leadership of Rev. W.C. Thomas, Sr. She was a dedicated member of the Shiloh family, serving with the Senior Usher Board, City Ushers, Shiloh Outreach Ministry, Hot Meals Program, Food Pantry, Women’s Mission Society, and Vacation Bible School.

Susie was an excellent cook who enjoyed hosting family dinners, birthday celebrations, and holidays with her relatives and friends. She was famously known for her rolls, lemon meringue pie, German chocolate cake, and “Grandma greens.” She was also an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening. She loved to travel and would travel often with the City Ushers, Sisters in Christ Chorale, Dayton Youth Golf Academy (DYGA), and in her motor home named “HoneyBee” with her favorite travel buddy, Evelyn. She was a two-time breast cancer survivor.

Susie Mae Dixon transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord on October 19, 2022. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Alfred S. and James Steverson, and sister, Mrs. Emma Fells. Susie Mae leaves to cherish her memory (2) daughters: Evelyn (Dixon) Hicks, Brenda (Ronald) Dixon; (1) son: Elery L. Dixon, III; (1) sister: Mrs. Dorothy Baker; (5) grandchildren; (6) great-grandchildren; (1) great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives; and a host of friends.
