Versie Lee Downey passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, with the love of her family surrounding her.

Versie was born on January 29, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky to Mattie and John Watkins. At the age of 7, she and her family moved to Dayton, Ohio where this became her home. Versie went to Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in the graduating class of 1956. Versie was proud to be a Dunbar Wolverine. Shortly after graduating, Versie started her career with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and retired after 34 years of service. Versie also worked for the United States Post Office. Versie was a woman of many passions including traveling, shopping, playing Bingo, reading, enjoying activities outdoors, and spending time with her granddaughter, Jazmine. Versie was a loving grandmother, beautiful spirit, God fearing woman, and will be missed my many.

She will be truly missed by her granddaughter, Jazmine Hill.

Versie is preceded in death by her parents, Mattie and John Watkins, one sibling, Dolores Greene, and daughter who she is now reunited with, Rhonda Watkins-Hill.
