Walter Byrd, Jr. Obituary

Walter “Walt” Byrd Jr., 67, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. Walter was born June 22, 1954 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Walter Byrd Sr., and Florine Byrd. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and brother Willie Byrd. Walt, attended Roth High school where he played basketball and was a graduate of the class of 1972. After high school, he began his career working at General Motors which provided him with the opportunity to move to Oklahoma and Dallas, Texas where he retired.  After retirement Walt returned to Dayton, Ohio to be close to his parents at which time he ended up uniting with the love of his life Vickie Byrd.

Some of his favorite past times included listening to all oldies and “Funk” music (a lot of people referred to him as “PFUNK”), visiting the casino, spending time with his wife Vickie and watching sports on television. Being an avid fan of sports, Walters favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners. Anyone who knew Walt always knew he was infatuated with dressing nice and driving a decked-out Cadillac and firing up the BBQ grill and showcase his cooking skills. Having a sense of humor and “telling it like it is”, were to two things that that Walt was also known for.  Walt always tried to make light of any situation no matter how severe it was. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Vickie Byrd, close cousin Vicky Zachary, Brother in Law Larry Hayes, Sister in law Beverly Jackson, two sons, five grandchildren and host of loved ones, friends, relatives and extended family members
