William Jack Givens Sr. Obituary

William Jack Givens Sr., was born in Barbourville, Kentucky on April 24, 1933, the son of Katherine (Pope) Hardison and Leemon (L.H.) Hardsion.


William passed away following a lengthy illness on October 20, 2024.


He is survived by his wife Rosalyn A. Givens; son Dr. Rodney L. Givens, DDS; daughter Trivia McCombs (Tony); grandchildren: Erica Givens, Jarrod Givens, Devin Givens; great-granddaughters: Shaeyla Givens, Janiyah Gomez (Givens) and Dallas Bedford (Givens).


He was preceded in death by two children: William Jack Givens Jr. and Katherine Marie Givens.


He lives to cherish his memory a host of numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, friends, in-laws and former colleagues.


William graduated from Rosenwald High School. His first official job was at a local Kroger grocery store. Later, urged by life circumstances, he joined the United States Military, specifically the Army. He spent a short stint in the Korean War before returning home to begin his life as civilian.


William and Rosalyn met on a “blind date” while Rosalyn was student at Ohio State University. After a few years of dating, they got married and started a family.


William was an accomplished Finished Carpenter and Construction Supervisor. He spent more than 30 years with companies such as Shook, Messer and Foreman Construction Companies (WPAFB).


Throughout his career, he received numerous awards and letters of commendation from various Air Force brass for outstanding workmanship and leadership.


A committed family man, involved in his community and a devoted child of God and member of College Hill Community Church.


He will always be remembered for his love of life, his mentorship of those around him and also his undying love for his family and friends. May his soul Rest in Peace.
