William D. Long Obituary

The lifelong resident of Dayton, Ohio entered his eternal resting place Monday, December 1, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.


He was born to the late Artberry Long Sr. and Marie Long on June 17, 1950. “Dwight” as he was affectionately known was a man of unwavering faith, wisdom and kindness.


Dwight gave his life to our heavenly father at a young age. Later in life he rededicated himself to the lord and became ordained as a Deacon as well as an Elder at The Potter’s House of Dayton with Bishop Mark C. McGuire Sr.


Dwight was passionate about his faith, family and friends. He graduated from Roth High School, class of 1968 then proceeded to work and retire after 35 years of service with General Motors as well as years with BioLife Plasma Centers and Wright State University.


In addition to his parents, Dwight is preceded in death by his brother Artberry Long Jr. and sisters: Barbara Jones, Shirley Anne Williams, Vickie Taylor Scott and a very special nephew Aaron Taylor.  


He is survived by his wife Jacqueline; sons: William Demil Joyce Sr. (Rhonda) Raymond McDaniel; daughters: Danielle and LaToyia Long. He also leaves to cherish his memories grandchildren Dachelle Mcelrath, Justyn Wortham, Jazmyne Anderson, Devia Joyce, William Demil Joyce II, Rayelle McDaniel as well as six great-grandchildren and six nephews (considered his honorary sons); close cousins Warren Long and Gregory “Yankee” Long Sr., dear lifelong friends David (Peter Wolfe) Broom, George (Ricky) Smith and Pamela Tims as well as extended members of the Long, Hickman, Joyce, McDaniel and McGuire Families.
