Wilma Joan Wells, 84 transitioned from this life to everlasting on Monday, May 16, 2022. She was born in Etowah, Tennessee to Alline Burns (Jordan) and Abraham McDermott. She moved to Dayton, OH at the age of seven years old. Wilma is a 1957 graduate of Roosevelt High School and was a founding member of the Nightingales Social Club of Dayton. She attended Sinclair Community College for data processing. Wilma was a cashier at Concord City Clothing before embarking on a career in social work. She served as an Emergency Care Provider for Montgomery County Children’s Services and later retired from Montgomery County Developmental Center in 1993. After retirement, Wilma continued her work in social services as a Senior Companion where she assisted the aged.
Wilma accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church. In 2004 Wilma joined Mount Enon Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member under Reverend Cory J. Pruitt.
Those who knew Wilma knew she loved her family deeply. She was a staunch advocate for her children and grandchildren. Wilma was a devoted daughter, mother and friend to many. Her gentle spirit and kind demeanor are an inspiration and she loved to laugh. Her infectious smile was always refreshing. Wilma will be missed by all.
She is preceded in death by her parents and youngest son, Harold L. Wells Jr. Wilma is survived by her daughter, Kathy A. Burns of Trotwood, OH, Son, Dwayne A. (Priscilla) Burns of Titusville, FL, daughter-in-law Constance Wells of Dayton, OH, grandchildren, Dwayne J. Burns of Orlando, FL, Ashia D. Burns of Xenia, OH, Jamison A. Wells of Dayton, OH, Derrick A. Burns of Tampa, FL, Joshua A. Wells and Jacob A. Wells of Dayton, OH, great-granddaughter Natalia A. Burns, and a host of relatives and friends.
