Zora Mae Brown was a loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was born on January 25, 1940 in Junction City, Louisiana to the union of Ardine and Elnora Ross Brown. On Saturday, February 22, 2020 following a lengthy illness, Zora went home to be with the Lord.
During Zora’s early childhood her family relocated to Dayton, Ohio. Zora attended Dayton Public Schools and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School Class of 1958. On February 14, 1959, she was united in marriage to Gaynith Brown by Reverend Thomas D. Howard.
Zora was a devoted and faithful member of Mount Enon Missionary Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She served in various capacities including National Baptist Convention certified Sunday School Teacher and Bible Study Teacher. Zora attended The Marilyn Hickey Bible College.
She began her career with the Defense Electronic Supply Company, and co-managed their family-owned business, M&M TV in Centerville, Ohio for a number of years. She studied business management at Sinclair Community College. After 38 years of service, Zora retired from her position as Inventory Manager with the Department of Defense.
Zora volunteered for the Dayton Board of Education, working with kindergarten and 1st grade children at Belle Haven Elementary School. She also loved interior design and gardening.
Zora was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, parents, brother, Mansfield Walker, and grandson, Gregory Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Marvelyn L. Brown, and son Mark E. Brown Sr., grandchildren: Monica L. Coleman (Jason), Nadia C. Mitchell, Martice L. Brown, Mark E. Brown Jr., Diamond L. Ross, Brooklyn K. Brown; great-grandchildren: Christian J. Coleman, Cameron Bilal, Jace A. Rowe, Ryan J. Coleman and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
